I am planning to get a letter from our HR department regarding the "proof of employment".. not sure how picky they are but does the date on the letter need to be exactly the same as the date of my application?

No. It just has to be relatively close (like a few weeks).

You mean the date your employment letter was signed? No it doesn't have to be the same as the date you sign your application

proof of employment is not required as part of citizenship application. however, if you want to attach it, I would also attach copy of all pay-stubs (sequentially ordered), that is more verifiable document for CIC.

I didn't send HR letter just tax assessment, certificates and awards from work

Oh i thought its needed? as ive seen in the document checklist form you need to attached any proof of your experience under the NOC category that you're applying to, such as, employment referrence letter stating your name, position or title plus the salary you're getting (if im not mistaken) ???

Proof of employment is needed for citizenship application. It is mentioned in section 6F in the application form.I am submitting my T4 copies from 2011 to 2013 and my pay stubs of each month for the year 2014.
