See above.

Change stuff now.

I certainly wasn't giving you carp for what you should have done.

Sure its a minor inconvenience, but IMO the payoff is worth it.

Most people don't move in together with the assumption that they will need proof of it later. When we moved in together we had no intention of going the spousal sponsorship route. I don't know anyone who changes their major documents from their parents address until they are pretty well settled somewhere. I would think many couples are in similar situations when they first move in, so rather than comments on what we should have done in hindsight, I was really looking for advice on what we could do now to strengthen our evidence.

I don't see anywhere where anyone said what you should have done, I only see two people who have replied to you, and both of them (including me) told you what you can do now...

Hey everyone.. this thread has been so helpful to get us started on the bits we need to get.. thank you! I am Canadian and my boyfriend is German. We have been together for 3 1/2 years (I've been living in Germany for 8 years) and have been living together in Germany for 2 1/2 years. We are gathering all the "proof" documents we need to get translated from living together.

One thing I'm wondering about is our rental contract though. It is obviously in German. It is also 7 pages long because it has all the rules of our rental in it in great detail. However.. amongst all the other details, on Page 1 it lists both our names, Page 2 says when the rental officially starts and Page 7 is where we have signed and dated it with our landlord.

Do you think we have to get all 7 pages translated? Or is it good enough to get just Page 1,2 & 7 translated? Or can the translator do a summary of the document do you think? (I know it has to be notarized too)

Thank you for any tips or suggestions! ;D

Im wondering the same except in our circumstance he has been staying on 6 month visitor visas. He is living with me now but cant own property, change the address on his license etc. This leaves me wondering what proof we can use once the one year is up.

He can certainly own property. Mail from his country, bank statements, credit card statements, phone bills, utility bills, medical/dental bills, Amazon deliveries, etc. There are tons of proofs that he can get. You need to show one solid year of proof, so if you didn't start collecting proof from the beginning, you will have to extend your cohabitation until you get the one year of proofs.
