Proof of Citizenship urgent

I'm a university student and I've recently found a rare opportunity to work at a company in the states and it would be a crucial step in advancing my career. However, I can't apply for an adult passport because name change certificates aren't being honored anymore. Last month, I applied for a new citizenship card but I still haven't received my letter of acknowledgement. I maybe have only 1-2 months time. Is there any way I can ask to speed up the process, or maybe cross the border without a proof of citizenship? Would this be a valid reason for urgent processing?

I have a regular ontario drivers license, health card, sin, and expired children's passport.

With c-24 up and coming.... Your application for citizenship will probably be denied when you tell them that you want urgent processing to go work in another country... This is clear and simple intent to reside.

Maybe I am reading your post wrong but you are looking to get a proof of citizenship (i.e. certificate), not a grant of citizenship, right? If so, the previous reply regarding "intent to reside" is not accurate.

On the website, they state that the current processing time for proof of citizenship is 5 months.

Please note that cards are no longer issued - you would get a certificate.

Needing proof of citizenship to get a job is mentioned as a valid reason for urgent processing, though they likely mean to prove you're a citizen to qualify for a job in Canada. Your need is more a need to travel, which requires a passport, though your need to travel does not involve a family emergency. So, you'll just have to try and see.

Unless you're also a U.S. citizen, the U.S. will not allow entry without a valid passport, so going without one isn't an option. Of course, if you're still a citizen of your previous country, you may be able to use that country's passport. However, if you have a U.S. work visa that is valid for you as a Canadian, that may not work either.
