Proof of Citizenship - NewBorn born to a Canadian mother abroad

Hi,

I am a Canadian Citizen by birth, and due in Feb. However, I am outside Canada due to my husband's work related assignment in Malaysia. So I will be delivering the baby in Malaysia as I was unable to travel back in this condition due to health complications.
I want to know how soon can I get the limited validity Canadian passport for the baby as I will need to travel urgently.

What documents would they need as supporting proof.

You would go through the High Commission office in Malaysia to apply for proof of citizenship for your child and at the same time apply for a travel document. You would need the child's birth certificate (with translation if not in English or French) and your birth certificate.

Thank you for the response! Any idea how long it takes to get the baby's travel document? Also, I am Canadian by birth, but my husband is not a citizen, hope thats not a problem?

I have no personal experience with this, so I don't know how long it takes. Only one parent needs to be a Canadian citizen for your child to be Canadian.
