Proof of Citizenship from abroad

Hi,

I left the application for my son's proof of citizenship at the Embassy in Argentina in October and got the email saying they received it last week; that's almost 3 months after I applied.

The Embassy employee told me it would take about 5 months total, but I went to the cic site and saw rhey say it takes another 3-4 months ON TOP OF the regular 5 months for applications from Canada.

Has anybody gotten a certificate from overseas and how long did it take?

Thanks!

The 5 month processing timeline quoted on the CIC website is for applications that are mailed to the Processing Office from within Canada and the US, and if they are considered routine. Applications from overseas that go through embassies and consulates take an additional 3-4 months if they are considered routine. If they are not routine and are directed to Program Support, then there is no established timeline for processing, so you could be waiting 10 or more months. Please also know that if they keep your status up-to-date on the ECAS (sometimes they don't) that the timeline begins when they start processing and reviewing your documents, not when they sent you the Acknowledgment of Receipt.

You could apply for urgent processing, but only for specific reasons. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/proof-citizenship/apply/urgently.html

Thanks for the answer!
I am going to send the air tickets to the embassy and explain, which is what the employee told me to do if the process was taking long.
Too bad though she assured me the certificate would take 5 months total
