Hello,

I was born in the UK to a Canadian father and so am eligible for (well apparently already am, a Canadian citizen). I sent off for a proof of Canadian Citizenship certificate a couple of months ago but am concerned at how long the processing times appear to be.

I was wondering if it actually takes this long (12-15 months!) and would like to hear from people how long it took to receive theirs?? I am currently in the UK but am planning to move to Canada ASAP. It would be good to hear from people who also applied through the High Commission in London?

Also, I am planning to set up a life in Vancouver (living and getting a job etc) but obviously cannot start applying for roles until I can prove I have the right to work there. Would it be worth attempting to apply for urgent processing for this reason? Has anyone done this? How should I word the application?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hello, I too applied, from the US. My application was received on May 28th and went into process on July 9th. I have called twice now to check on it and it's still in the department that does the verification and is listed as a "routine" application. I sent in for urgent processing using the reasons listed on their website and the request was essentially ignored. I think it's up to the individual officer whether they will process it urgently or not. I would say submit for it, and I hope you have a nice officer who will do it for you.

Also, the customer service people I spoke with at CIC said it's 6 months to process. Which is different than what the NYC consulates office told me. I'm going with CIC's timeline.

Thanks. Yeah I think I will send off for it and hope for the best!

I understand that it is a quicker process from within north America though so will probably take me longer.

Also, it seems you can only track your application from north America too. Seems to be a real distinction between applying from within Canada & the States and everywhere else!

Call your embassy and ask for your client ID number. Everyone can check their status with that, even people overseas.

I'll try that - thanks! Though I did receive an email from my embassy in London saying I am unable to track my application from the UK.

Frustrating!
