Proof of Citizenship AOR timeline and delivery method

Hoping someone knowledgeable on this topic may be able to assist. I submitted a Proof of Citizenship application for my minor son. Details are as follows:

Today's Date: November 12, 2020

I have yet to receive an AOR. It appears that most people have received the AOR in about 2 months. I am now at 2.5 months. Could someone please help with the following questions:

1) how is the AOR delivered? Is it through the mail or do they send via email to the email address provided in our application?

2) How unusual is it to wait 2.5 months or longer for the AOR?

It’s taking us longer to

• check that your application is complete
• send you an acknowledgement of receipt (AOR) letter or email with your application number
  • We send you the AOR after we receive your application and check that it’s complete.

Updating that the application we submitted 9-2020 is now 'decision made' as of this week. I'll update when we receive the certificate.
Timline is:
Sent Sept 2020
Received Sept 22 2020
AOR 8-18-2021
Started processing 01-19-2022
Decision made 2-7-2022 I believe, this doesn't have a date next to it but wasn't decision made last week.
