How are their children eligible for open work permit? How old are they? Usually minors are not eligible unless attending post secondary and paying international fees. If through the new program just announced, what qualifies has not been posted. Haven’t defined what working age children will be. Phase I is for high skilled workers so don’t expect that children will be eligible in January. Usually POF is not required for caregiver pathway unless new rules are implemented in January. IRCC can ask you to show POF as living in Canada is expensive.

So they are not eligible for work permits. They apply for visitor visas if no longer in secondary school. POF is not required but if asked LICO is $28k.

Yeah I read that in ircc website, but I got confused when Naturgrl said if they are no longer in secondary school they are not eligible. They are going to finish secondary school by june 2023

Even if the children will qualify for an OWP they are not guaranteed to find employment so you normally have to show you can still financially support the children if they are being included as dependents. Even if young adults have recently started working or studying and working part-time the majority parents don’t charge rent or money for food but have to provide a larger home and buy significantly more food. The longer children remain at home and/or are working full-time after completing their studies (if they pursued post-secondary education) the more likely they are to have contribute towards monthly expenses depending on the financial needs of the family. Salary required to support a family of 5 will vary greatly between cities in Canada.

Hi thanks for this info. Financially support means they have to show that they have enough money to their bank? If lico shows 28k for family of 5, they have to show that they have this total amount or they will included the salary of the caregiver too? Im a bit confused about this.

The salary for the caregiver must be enough to support the family. Doesn’t make sense to approve the application for the whole family only for the family to arrive and not be able to afford the basics like housing, food, utilities, transportation, etc. The amount a nanny needs to be paid varies by location in Canada.
