Program Selection

I have done BS Accounting & Finance in 2022 and currently I am working as a digital product analyst in a digital bank in Pakistan.

Now I have an offer of admission for Fall'23 from Concordia MS Business Analytics & Technology Management which is a research program with optional Co-op and an offer for Winter'24 term from Windsor Master of Management- Business Data Analytics program.

Does the program have to be aligned perfectly with my previous qualifications?

Even though Concordia has a better ranking, but the program firstly has a component of technology management in it which is doesn't align with my background of finance and secondly and most importantly it is a research program and I don't have any prior research experience and don't know how to justify it and what to write in future prospects as many people follow academic career after research program. Please guide me on what program I should select and how I should defend a thesis program with one year of work experience.

Also, does Windsor's Master of Management program has a better visa ratio?

This is your career choice to make. Go through detailed program syllabus and make decision.

Would highly suggest doing the co-op option if Concordia guarantees a co-op placement. Even as a Canadian grad getting your first job can be difficult. Personally think job experience before graduation in your field is invaluable even for children born in Canada. Think Concordia is a better school and Montreal offers better opportunities than Windsor. French is the other big issue. Not as big in the tech space but a general consideration in Montreal. Comes down to personal choice though.

Concordia doesn't guarantee Co-op placement, their CMS team help students by posting internship opportunities and providing the counselling but they don't guarantee a placement. Secondly, I understand that Concordia is a better school but do you think that study visa is dependent on how relevant or aligned the program is to your background because Concordia's program has a component of technology management which doesn't align with either my work experience or my academic background and writing a thesis in a program which is different than my previous background is something that I am finding hard to defend in my visa SOP. Lastly, language barrier is another thing I am considering for Montreal as it might affect me getting odd jobs.

There must be a logical progression when selecting a program but it doesn’t have to be the exact same background. Both programs will be viewed as being a genuine student especially as an international student and not a blatant application to secure PR so pick which one suits you. Would suggest trying to reach out to current students and recent graduates to see about transition to the job market. For Concordia grads would be asking about whether they remained in Quebec and was that problematic in terms of language and immigration programs. Concordia grads and likely drawn to opportunities in Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa where as Windsor grads tend to end up in the GTA/ SW Ontario. What type of jobs you are trying to pursue after graduation may also make one program more suitable than the other.

I was looking at several threads and I can see that you have been well versed in matters of visa application. Thank you for your help to future international students.

My question is this, I got admission for Graduate certificate in Artificial intelligence. My background is in bachelors of civil engineering with a construction background. How would I go about explaining career progression? Looking at my third world country, AI especially in construction still has some way to go.

Hope you chose Concordia. Windsor is a diploma mill for International students these days
