Hello ,

I have been accepted to Memorial university of Newfoundland bachelor of engineering co op program for the January 2019 intake . I have graduated high school in may of this year from an international school that is based on an American curriculum. My academics are pretty good , with my Grade 10 , 11 , and 12 Percentage averages being a 94 , 97 ,and 99.73 respectively. I scored a 1360 out of 1600 in the SAT on my first and only trial and an overall band of 8 on the IELTS . My academics have allowed me to secure admission with a 6000$ CAD scholarship for the first year.

I'm originally from Syria and am of Syrian nationality but I moved to Saudi Arabia when I was 2 months old with my parents as my father has been an expatriate here ever since . While I have been visiting Syria occasionally, I haven't been there in 8 years due to the current situation.

With all that being said, I'm a little bit worried so I'm looking for an ease of mind by posting my profile here and seeing how it looks to some of the experienced members of this forum .

In terms of how I will be funding my studies , my dad is employed as a civil engineer and will provide his employment letter stating his salary and all that verified by the Saudi chamber of commerce. He also has a business investment which he has had for the past 10 years which nets him a decent amount of revenue not to mention that his share of the business is worth quite a bit. The yearly revenue alone is more than enough to fund my studies every year , and so he'll also be providing a letter from that business stating his share and his annual revenue for the past 5 years ; also to be verified by the chamber of commerce.
In addition he'll be giving me around 60k CAD in my bank account to which I will provide a letter from the bank verifying my balance and prepare a bank draft for that amount in Canadian dollars to show that I am ready to carry that amount with me to Canada. My dad will also write a signed letter committing to support me for the duration of my studies. My tuition fees are 11500 CAD per year and the program duration is 5 years .

As for the ties to my home country, my parents own 5 properties back in Syria not to mention that I have a lot of my relatives there including my grandparents. My parents and my 3 younger siblings all live in Saudi Arabia so that should serve as enough proof of family ties not to mention the financial ones .

In the end , I will also write a letter of explanation stating my intentions and why I chose Canada and this University and to why i chose this specific program . I will be listing my future goals and how this education will help me with employment and maybe even business ventures and also mention that I look forward to help rebuild and reshape the future of Syria once the crisis ends .

I apologize for the length of this thread but I really appreciate any input and hope that I end up with my mind at ease :) . Also sorry for the bad grammar and scripture of this whole thing I was in a hurry .

Fellow Syrian here too and I’m here to give you a piece of mind! Your chances are very high because Canadian visa officers never take Syria’s situation in consideration unless you specifically mention it.

Stick to the classic game of proving home ties and show more focus on your intentions to return back to Saudi Arabia indirectly, ie. you would benefit from your bachelors to be a top prospect for any job openings.

Have more ties to Saudi Arabia, even if it was not financially related. Your siblings, parents, uncles and far relatives is a good family tie and chances are you will return to Saudi Arabia when you’re done with your education. Always remember to attach salary certificates of your parents if they are sponsoring your education and a letter stating they will undertake all financial expenses - plenty of people forget this!

Emphasise more on returning to Saudi Arabia and not Syria as this raises questions and concerns whether you are really having intentions of going back. Mentioning Syria is a big no no and make sure you attach any supporting document to prove you have been in Saudi for a long time (your past visas from A-Z) yet again, don’t open topics and leave them unanswered in your SOP/letter of explanation (ie. speaking about your future and not mentioning where and how you will achieve your long term goals)

God bless you!

Have a good one.
