Hello,

Request the members to review my profile and provide guidance.

I am looking to pursue 2-year full-time MBA program at the Alberta School of Business.

Age: 38 years
Experience: 16 years (no gaps)
Education: Bachelor of Engineering
Industry: Information Technology
Role: Architect Level
Work Experience: Good amount of work experience in Product Development and Consulting. Currently working in one of the top product-based company.

Please note I already have a visa refusal in the SOWP category when I last applied along with my wife study permit which got rejected as well. I am planning to apply alone in the Study permit category this time.

What are the chances of getting Study permit for my profile?

Most consultants I speak with are skeptical due to age factors. Your input would be highly appreciated.

Thank You!

Age number is not that kind of barrier. However, How you justify the study intention after so much big gap.
The typo of course you want is the based on the business field, while you have education in the Eng/Technical field.
Not sure but the chances are slightly low.

Thanks for the reply. So you are suggesting that an MS over MBA would be more suitable for my profile ?

The reason I am looking for an MBA program is, am looking for career progression to move from the Technical field toward Management. Already have experience managing small teams. Would like to enhance the experience further by enrolling in a management course

Ohk understood.
You can try study permit application with strong SOP and proper justification why you choose this course, why this college/University & Why Canada.
The pattern of rejection is very inconsistent nowadays.

Your under-graduate degree is in engineering/computer science/IT, and your work experience started from IT. You moved onto managerial and middle-level management roles over time of course. That is a point you can use in your SoP. Age isn't a factor of course.

I worked in IT and Business roles for almost 9 years before I came to Canada to study business (graduated successfully). Make your case, by explaining how the business degree will help you career wise. Why Canada? That is an important question to answer in your SoP. Make sure the reason is personal too. The usual drivel of Canada welcoming newcomers, and plenty of opportunities won't cut it. Not the usual stuff about uAlberta's school of business, either. Point out how the program will benefit you. Read up on the economy of Edmonton, where it is based in. Circle in on how studying there will help you. Be specific.

Talk about your previous application and your wife's failed study permit application at the end of the SoP. One line. Don't need to elaborate. But acknowledge it and talk about how you're moving on from it.
