Hi.
I have applied for canada immigration under Skilled/Professional Immigration category in December 2006 through Nairobi. I am an Indian but based in Africa for 2 years now. I had applied through an immigration lawyer and was told initially by the Immigration lawyer that it takes 15 months maximum for getting the visa done. The CIC website which used to show 15 months now shows 24 months for processing.

In the month of Feb I got my file No. and have been able to access the CIC website. It shows that my application is in progress since May, 2007.

Those who have applied through nairobi please guide as to how long it takes for the full process to complete.

It is now actually between 29 and 52 months. The low end of the processing scale usually contains most of the refusals, Since you are an Indian national, Delhi will have to be contacted, so it is probably going to be quite a well yet before you see some progress.

Hi,

I'm a Kenyan Citizen based in Nairobi, applied for Federal Skilled Immigration class (province chosen = Ontario) for PR for Canada on July 2004 in Nairobi. Received my File Number in a month, but then I received a letter from the High Commission requesting to take my Medicals, go for updated Police Certificate, submit Landing Fee and Passport on May 2007. Fulfilled their requests by June 2007. I am still waiting for my passport for over 2 months!. How long should it take now, because a passport is a vital document as I didn't expect them to keep it for longer than a month? Will requesting my passport from the Embassy delay my processing?
I hear the CIC is now more facilitative, still then, I request to know the typical wait times after passport submission to embassy.

amkk,

waiting time 3 months from submission of what they required. Nairobi cic are very efficient as I had good experience with them and hopefully you they will finalise your case by September 2007.

Good luck.

Does it not make a difference if you are using the services of a lawyer. I was told by the lawyer that they help in faster processing of the case.

Nope, only makes sure your application is correct and not returned as incomplete. Read www.cic.gc.ca about representatives.
