Processing time up to 88 days

I don't believe this is accurate. Processing for sponsors for parents is completely different and it is taking those applications MONTHS not DAYS. Besides, they stopped receiving apps for parents until further notice. But I could be wrong, just my opinion.

The same group of visa officers is responsible for both spousal and parent/grandparent application processing. This is why one is having an impact on the other.

There will be a big rumble if that figure grows bigger. CIC's mandate was to process spousal cases preferred, if you can believe what JC Kenney said.

I think spousal applications should get priority and should be dealt with first, before even touching applications for parents and grandparents.

Where would the rumble come from? They must know that spousal applicants are not pleased with the slow down, as I'm sure the call center has received hundreds of calls in regards to the timeline for stage 1.

I hope it speeds up! And I have a feeling it will once the January applicants have been processed.

Spousal applications should and do have priority over parents and grandparents. This will never change.

When I send my stuff to Mississauga, the CIC website indicated 56days. Every day they would update their page and add more days to the process. I was like « Oh.My.Gosh! The documents will expire! Will we have to re-send stuff because of their speed!?! » I think it ended up at 85days and I finally got the approval letter by email when I stopped checking everyday. That's what you have to do. I know it's hardly possible though. For us, and maybe we were lucky because we were dealing with the Sao Paulo consulate (which, it is true, already have a good average speed in terms of Immigration Visa treatment) , the longest wait was with CIC-Mississauga (and also the less stressful since you, as the sponsor, really need to be in a bad situation for them to refuse your sponsorship application). My two cents and a half. :-\

^ Yes, I think that is the best way to look at it. It's solid advice...even though we all know it's hard to be patient for such an important thing, it really helps to keep busy and focus on other things...then one day, you'll check your inbox and bang...approval...

I was just talking about this with my wife and we can't figure it out.

Let's assume CIC-M finished all of January by the end of the first week of May (May 7th). They begin processing applications received in Feb. So for an app received on Feb 1st, it should, according to CIC (88 days), be approved by the end of April. Seeing as how CIC-M hasn't finished January, this seems impossible...so...that would mean that an app received on Feb 1st, in theory, won't get approval until the second week of May...which means that all apps will be pushed back AT LEAST 2-4 weeks. So most people in Feb won't get approval until early June some time...which means that March applicants won't get approval until July-Aug...so for April applicants, we won't get approval until Sept-Oct...and this is the part that confuses me because CIC shows 88 days...and if we add a week to that (to account for the 88 days being an approximation), it would mean about 95 days, but still, if April apps are not approved until Sept-Oct, the actual number of days would be more like 150 days or 5 months...approximately...so I have no idea how or even why CIC would put 88 days when in fact it's an impossible number...

I'm guessing it will be more like 150 days...maybe even longer...but I'm not saying this because I'm stressing or anything, just trying to do the math to figure out a rough idea of when I should expect the approval letter...

Am I doing this totally wrong??

When I asked the call center agent, he explained it in such a way that they will be able to finish within the 88 days give or take a week or so...but I can't see how...

Anyone have any ideas??

Just a thought...

As CIC cannot predict how many applications will be coming in in the future, they can only give an approximate time based on past statistics.

On the Processing Time page (www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp), when you click the 'complete application package' link above the table, it takes you to the FAQ Q6...

"Q 6. If I submit an application today, will these statistics show me the length of time it will take to finalize my application?

Future processing times may not be the same as past processing times. The length of time it takes to finalize applications may vary from time to time.

These tables show the number of days or months that were required to approve or refuse applications at visa offices around the world during a 12-month period in the past."

And there can be many other factors affecting the processing time like staff departure, sick off, system down, strike, weather...
