My partner is relocating with his company from the UK to Canada. I have been told by HR, who is being instructed by a Canadian Law Firm, that I am entitled to an open work permit as I will be sponsored from his application.
I have been told our application is with the labour department in order to receive documents for the both of us to present to the immigration border upon arrival in Canada. Our application was sent off mid-December and we are yet to hear anything back regarding either of us - we have no tracking number and have been told our application simply states 'pending' in the law firms system.
We are over estimated timings given by HR/Law firm and the government websites timings for sponsorship of a common-law partner/spouse are 12 months.
Does anybody know if the timings are 12 months? Or whether they fall under the timelines of attempting to gain a work permit (14 weeks as per the cic website)?
I appreciate anyone's help as this is very stressful!
