Hi,

Can i apply for prtd in case my pr gets approved while i'm out of Canada? I'm an inland applicant, planning to travel home for 3 weeks in February. I saw some people in this forum had the same situation, and they got their prtds, even though they spent 0 days in Canada since becoming PR at the time. Just want to confirm if I can still apply for prtd while i'm away.

Thanks,
I was also in same suituation and agent told me that if possible and not urgent then avoid leaving canada if you are near to get your PR or it might delay the process . I have read also that for someone they have reverse the PR , allowed him to travel on work permit and then again approved the PR but . So its depends on officer how they will treat the case but if you think your will get COPR soon then its worth waiting , get PR and then leave canada .

Dear @Bafnamit ,

I would like to know if you travelled outside Canada after receiving CoPR? Were you able to get PR travel document easily?

I would appreciate, if you can answer the above.

I got my COPR on 15th Jan 2021 and I am planning to travel on 1st Feb for 2 months and COPR document clearly says that if I leave canada without PR card then I can apply for PRTD outside Canada to enter back and currently PR card processing on website is 125 days . I am planning to apply for PRTD once I reach India

If you leave Canada without a permanent resident card, you will have to apply for a permanent
resident travel document through a visa office. Otherwise, you will not be able to board a
commercial vehicle (plane, train, bus or boat) to come back to Canada. Please visit our website
for more information.

Thanks for the reply! Isn't the process a little different now? Meaning receiving copr automatically means you're a pr since you don't have to do landing? Also, how long were you waiting for your pr?

I am still waiting for my son's passport collection process from vfs

Yes ...now there is no landing process and the day you get COPR you are Permanent resident and apply for PR card .

Thanks for sharing timelines and it really helps everyone looking for applying PRTD and plan accordingly. Really appreciate !!

Did you send separate PRTD application email with supporting doc to IRCC for your wife and for your son ?

In a way this process is better :) because as per earlier process there are travel restrictions for any PR application approved after 18th March 2020.

It is good if you are inside Canada but for some reason if you are outside canada and you get COPR the it makes things complicated because the time you receive COPR all your work permit and TRV becomes invalid. So there are some cons for this process.

I agree. I too leant recently that my current work permit and TRV which was valid for another year got invalidated now :(

But with the earlier process of PPR and landing/flag polling, they would kept all the approved files on hold
