Processing time for online application(transit visa) from USA.

Hi all,

I submitted my online application for a transit visa on May 15th, got an email says the application has been received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) on May 16th. Nothing more since then.

As I submitted the application in USA, and the "Country where applying" I put in the IMM5257 was also USA,

So I think either the office in LA or NYC will process my application.

Two questions:
1. The information provided by CIC website, are these time length in days stands for the processing time for online application?

2. These two offices have different of processing times. LA is 28 days, NYC is 41 days. Anybody knows which one should I refer to?

My flight is on July 2nd, if I can get the passport request around June 15th, maybe I still have time to get the visa, otherwise I need to spend a lot of money to change my flight.

Yes, that is standard. However expect that time to be exceeded at least by 50%.

(You can also get lucky and get the TRV in less than 50% of the stated time)

Until you get confirmation of which office is processing your application there is no saying. Some applications get transferred to other countries.

That is why you should apply with at least 2 months in advance in case of any delays. CIC is quite clear delays do happen and they don't take any responsibility on the applicants bad planning.

Thanks for the information! Just checked with Air Canada, told me that I'm eligible for the TWOV(Transit without visa), so seems I don't need a transit visa anymore.

Make sure you have the right information. Air Canada is not in any way an Immigration websource.

Hi,
I applied for transit visa online from US, too. And I waited 2 months and 11 days( I applied on Mar 22) but no response from CIC. Status is "Open" .
Could you give me an advise about my status? Do you know how to contact with them?
Thanks so much!

Each CIC office has a contact info on their webpage. You can try that.

For applications under NY consulate jurisdiction, the processing time is approximately 41 days. I received passport request in 28 days exactly and my passport was stamped and returned to VAC within 32 days (total). By any luck I should have my passport back this week, so 35 days is less than the approximate processing time of 41 days.

Thank you for quick response! I'm so patient, but 2 months 11 days is just too long and exceeded approximate time as they posted on website.

I sent email to VAC and they said they didn't process online application, so they didn't know .
Do you mean I should try to contact to Canada consulate?

If you don't know where your application is being processed then you are out of luck. Try the consulate... won't hurt....

As stated, some people get lucky, most don't.

Yes, I don't know where. Then I'll try to email to consulate.
