1. as the crystal ball is cloudy today, can't guess where you applied. So your country of residence? Or check : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp

hi PMM, sorry... my country of residence is philippines.. thank you for the link... i found it that it's gonna be 42 days and cic is still working on applications of jan 8, 2015...

my stay will expire on the 6th of March... do you know if i need to get out of canada? or can i just stay until cic i will hear from cic about approval or denial? then i will just be on implied status? thanks

Hi,
I submitted my mom's application for extension online on Jan 15.
Received a notification to go in for a medical exam on Feb 5. Got the exam done on Feb 10.
Status was updated to Approved today on Mar 16. Now I am waiting for the extension letter to arrive in the mail.
The whole process was done online and it took 2 months.

This is her second extension, the first one was done within 10 days, without medical exam.

You can still stay in canada until 90 days upon expiry, Yes you are on an implied status..

No you don't need to get out of Canada providing you apply before your visitor visa expires. Check this out from cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=473&t=16 “If your temporary resident status expires after you have submitted your application for an extension but before you receive a decision on your application, you can stay in Canada under what’s called implied status. That means the law implies you are a temporary resident. That status lasts until Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) decides on your new permit application.” There’s a lot of useful information on those pages.
