usually it cooincides with the anniversary date of the medical exam. though, i was given a bit of a grace period and my medicals were extended a few weeks past the 1 year mark. i have until dec 10 to land. i imagine it's different for every applicant and visa office. i've read where some people only have weeks. i am not sure if those reports are actually true.
Thanks! I really hope that our application falls in line with the 90-98 day trend that seems to be happening with a lot of the US applications...

Well, here's my two cents:

My spouse (wife) took on my name, so she had to get a new passport, the validity of the passport is 10 years, expires 2024.
I honestly have no idea how one would have their passport request waived, don't all places require a passport with a visa to enter Canada?
Furthermore, how else would you get your COPR paper?

And another quick question:
The email we received from the VO states that she can send it via any courier or in person, but she will have to pick it up in person (they claim that the visa issuance is done within a week), they will call her, is that normal?
They also requested 2 pictures (immigration pictures) and my (sponsor) address in Canada - I assume these are for the COPR?

Thanks!

again, this is the difference between VISA EXEMPT applicants and those from countries that require a visa to enter Canada. For visa exempt applicants, no visa or counterfoil is added to the passport, because as indicated we are VISA EXEMPT. CIC requests a scanned COPY of the passport for those who do not require a visa, and more applicants are getting approved without sending in a copy of the passport. Visa exempt applicants get their COPR mailed to them directly. There are 2 copies, one for CBSA/CIC and one for th applicant. When we get to the border, we will present these papers along with our passport and proceed to finalize the paperwork for PR.

Your wife requires a visa to travel to canada, and can not enter the country without the visa in the passport. it is different. she must have the visa counterfoil in her passport to land as a pr. when you're visa exempt, this is not needed. so, no not everyone requires a visa to enter canada.

to find out what's "normal" for ppr through your particular visa office, it's best to ask in the visa office specific thread.

Gocha, thanks!

That makes sense. Since they require the physical passport to issue the visa (sticker), they will return it with the COPR (if I understand correctly).

Her PR card will be mailed to the address she gives them.
How long it takes these days between landing and receiving PR card? It used to be 30 days. Is it still the case?

I believe that's still the case. Give or take about a month.

28 days according to the official stats.

ECAS was just updated for us.

Says "IN PROCESS".
"Started processing XXXXXX application on YYYYYY"
Interesting why it's only in-process, when they are requesting the passport, 2 photos, sponsor's address for visa issuance, and not "Decision made".
Also in the letter "We have completed processing of your Permanent Residence application".

Thanks!

ECAS won't change to decision made until the requested items are returned. at this point, thy can't make a "decision" and mail the visa until they get the passport (or copy) to issue the visa and the pictures needed for the COPR. you will find it will change soon after - how long is dependant on the visa office.

Hello all! Recieved the COPR and visa.

Quick question. On the COPR it states (as a watermark) "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" - is this normal - because I require a visa to travel to Canada, and the "NOT VALID TO TRAVEL" is there just because you can't use the COPR as a travel document?

Thanks!

yes, that is probably the case. since you require a visa, you can't just travel with the COPR alone, like visa exempt applicants can. once you land and want to travel internationally, you will either need to wait for the PR card or use a PR travel document.
