Hello,

I am not sure how to proceed in my current situation and would like some advice.

My partner and I lived together for one year between feb 2015 and feb 2016 when she came to Canada on a working holiday (from Japan).
Before that, we started dating in 2013 and have been in a long distance relationship.

Since then I've been preparing the common-law visa application, and I am ready to send it this week.

...However, we are planning on getting married this year.
We are planning to have the ceremony in November, and perhaps do the marriage registration (formal paperwork) in Spring when I visit Japan.

Unfortunately I do not know how to proceed.

Should I:
1) Send the common-law application this week without mentioning any engagements/wedding/ceremonies?
2) Wait until April to do the marriage paperwork in Japan, and then send in a spousal application?
3) Could #2 be seen as a "convenience", in which case I should wait until November? (which would be a huge shame)

I've searched the forums for similar cases.
Some people have suggested not mentioning the marriage plans in common-law application.
Some other post I've read also said that they simply applied for common-law and then sent an update to their visa officer when they got married (during the common-law application process)

Like everyone else, I don't want to do anything that could cause problems, but I would also like to do this as quickly as possible.

What would be my best course of action here?

Thank you in advance.

I would say just send the outland common-law app now, and update the visa office after you get married. This assumes you have good evidence to show your cohabitation for 12 months.

In our common-law app, we mentioned in it we were also engaged and had no issues.
