Hi All,

Please advise on my scenario:

1. I am naturalized canadian citizen and my wife is still Indian citizen with canadian PR. Our son was born in india last month.
2. Do i have to apply for canadian citizenship certificate for him first? once i got it then apply for canadian passport or i can apply for both parallely [I am planning to send the application form to New Delhi embassy]
3. Some say processing is faster in canada than in India. In that case If i apply for his citizenship certificate in canada, am i allowed to courier it to india to apply for his canadian passport later OR i can apply for both here in canada itself [since i will be travelling to india again in 7 months to bring my wife and son back, so i can take his passport with me].

Please urgently advise. Thanks again for your help.

You can apply both the certificate and limited validity passport at the same time. It depends when you want to travel.

Thank you steaky for your response. I want to apply for canadian passport, not limited validity PP at this moment. i dont mind waiting until my son have the canadian passport to bring him back.

The limited validity passport IS a Canadian passport. Until the Certificate of Citizenship has been issued, a full validity passport can't be issued.

I am curious to know. In this case, whats his status in India? What documents will you show while leaving India to the emigration officer? All the best with your applications.
