Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to share my experience to apply for a Canadian TRV. I am hoping this information would be useful for my fellow online community.

I applied for a single entry TRV to Canada. My timeline is:

March 5 - Application received
April 8 - Passport requested

I am yet to send them my passport. I am guessing they should be quick to return it.

FYI I am an Indian citizen and a student living in NYC for the past couple of years. I have just completed my master's degree program and have been on an F1 visa during my stay in the US.

I would like to know if I can submit my passport to the consulate in person? Could I also pick up the passport in person? It just makes more sense since I live right next to the consulate. The website doesn't say anything about in-person delivery and pick-up so your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone and best of luck to all of you!

Also if they have requested my passport, does this mean they could still deny my application?

No you're golden. They wouldn't bother asking for passport unless you were going to get the visa, unless they somehow found out you lied about something.

Thanks so much for letting me know! I am sending the passport to them tomorrow and I have printed out the shipping label for return by mail.

I intend to ask them if I can pick up the stamped passport in person. If so I will just opt for that option and if not, the return label is paid for anyway :)

Hi ms453,

I applied online and when got the letter asking for passport submission went to NYC to submit in person.
One of my friends told me that NYC consulate is only open on Wednesdays from 8.30am to 10.30am.

Once at the consulate you would be asked to put your passport, self addressed USPS envelope and the approval letter in a plastic envelope they provide and then drop in a drop box.
Carry an extra label with you. The entire process takes just 5 mins. You don't need to stand in any queue if you reach there after 8.30am

My timelines:
12th March - Applied Online
31st March - Approved, Requested for a passport
2nd April - Submitted my passport personally at NYC consulate
9th April - Received 10-years multi entry tourist visa.

All the best!

-Rahul

Thanks a lot rahul! I just received my passport today. I followed the exact same process as you said. I submitted my passport on 9 April and received on the 15th.

Same here - multiple entry visitor visa granted but valid only up to a day before the expiry of my passport (which happens in 4 years from today).

Overall, the process aims to smoothen their paperwork. But in retrospect, it has taken me about 1.5 months for a visa. Unacceptable standards in my opinion. But at least it's done. Cheers!
