Interview........
October 2024
Hello family,

We completed our interview 7 months ago, on October 2024 including the medical examination and full vaccinations in February 2025. Two days after the interview, we received a pre-arrival letter. Additionally, our application has been in process for 41 months. We are currently in Uganda, and our visa office is in Tanzania.

Is it normal to still not have a decision made regarding our application?

Not sure if they are on the forum but would be looking for timelines of very recent cases where private sponsorships have been approved and the person has landed in Canada. Even better if out of the same office. If your sponsors are in touch with other private sponsors have them ask for timelines of private sponsorships who have landed in 2025 or last half of 2024. That said Canada is in the middle of an election, dealing with both economic uncertainty and various other pressures coming from especially the US, trying to reduce the number of temporary residents and reduce PR yearly quotas, etc. so many things are in flux. IRCC in general is processing many types of applications extremely slowly.

Yes, you can be refused anytime up to the final decision being made. Although the chances of a refusal reduce the farther you are into the process.

I know some people who completed the entire process in a year window, and I know someone people who did it in a matter of 2-3 years, it vaires but it usually takes 2-3 years. But sometimes it can even take 4-5 years on rare cases, your best option is just to wait patiently, also put in mind you may be requested for another medical check if it passes over a year. I just hope you get your flight very soon

To be honest just forget about it and live your life as usual, when you are focused on it you will get anxiety and stress for no reason or results, but also you can send an e-mail to the embassy if they respond, it usually says you process is at the final stage, does your ecas shows Decision made?

I'm curious about that? How come private sponsorship is so slow? Where most of the responsibility and duties are on the sponsors but yet it takes years for the process to finish, I have got approval and biometrics in few months but after that there is nothing new. Private sponsorship should be quick in my opinion

All forms of refugee processing in general is slow. IRCC wants to have a mix of types of refugees and to slowly have refugees land because even privately sponsored refugees need access to many of the same services as privately sponsored refugees. Many also do end up on social assistance after the 1st year. There is a huge variability when it comes to privately sponsored refugees. Some know English/French already, are educated or have a specialized skill, some have employment experience that will help them transition into the Canadian workforce while other do not, some have large families which creates additional challenges, etc.

I checking the status of my application through the Electronic Client Application Status (ECAS) system, and it currently shows that our application is still "in process" with no decision made yet.

Sadly all you can do is wait
