Hi, my work experience in India was in NOC but now I did my master's in Canada and currently working in a job with NOC. I have enough points for FSW but not enough experience (at least 1 year) to apply in this NOC as my primary NOC. Can I apply in the previous NOC?

Summary
Primary NOC - 2281
2 years experience NOC - 2281
Current (in Canada) 6 months experience NOC - 2172

My thinking was that they'll reject because I'm not applying in the NOC of the job I have right now.
I get 511 points currently.

I guess info mentioned on this webpage may be helpful to you - https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-Primary-NOC-in-FSW-Express-Entry-Canada
I guess if you base your application on 2281 then you should be fine (2172 may be a contributor to the total points).

If you apply with your current NOC as a primary NOC, then your application would automatically be rejected as you don't have at least one year of experience in the same.

The requirement clearly states the following.

Your work experience must be:
  • in the same type of job as your primary NOC
  • within the last 10 years
  • paid work (volunteer work, unpaid internships don’t count)
  • at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2016 National Occupational Classification (NOC)
  • at least 1 year (1,560 hours total / 30 hours per week), continuous:
    • full-time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • equal amount in part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
    • full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
Hence, my personal suggestion would be to go ahead with 2281 as your primary NOC and you can show your current job in your personal history if you are not claiming points for the same.

Hi,

So one can have a different (NOC) job when applying for FSW even if it's not the same as their primary NOC (which has at least 1 year of continuous work experience) on their application?

Hi there, can someone please suggest me the appropriate NOC code for Project Management in Market Research Industry. I've been managing end to end full service projects. Thank you so much!

You match your job responsibilities, not title, to the NOC so search the database.

From these two NOC, which are in high Demand in Canada, for Ontario or maybe other province?
0022 – Advertising, marketing and public relations managers
12113 – Statistical officers and related research support occupations

Check OINP website and see if draws select those NOCs. OINP has been focusing on healthcare and trades. Research the other provinces. What is your CRS score? For EE, it is not one of the category based NOCs when the program starts targeted draws this summer.
