Hey guys! I have about 10 questions about my future application and some specifics that are confusing me (I'm sure more will follow in the future!)

We both live in Australia at the moment and are planning on returning in the near future, once we've completed commitments here and have saved a bit more money (I understand when we get the visa I'd have to travel to Canada to land but then I'd return here for a bit. Good excuse for a holiday!).

1. I'm British. I live in Australia. I haven't lived in the UK since 2008. Which information guide should I use from this website:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp
Western Europe or South East Asia and Pacific

2. As we don't intend to return immediately upon receiving the COPR, what type of proof can we provide that we genuinely intend on settling in Canada (aside from what I feel is the obvious of going through a strenuous and huge application process)? We won't have jobs lined up and we won't have proof of applying for a rental or buying a house as that will come later. We do have a good amount of money in Canada and my wife is doing a distance Ed masters through Uni of Calgary for when we return. We also have family there who will vouch for us returning and say they are going to put us up. What more can we give? Also, would this evidence go with the sponsor part, the applicant part or the proof of genuine relationship section?

3. Will my wife need to supply police certificates? She is the sponsor. I know I need to, but will she as she isn't living there?

4. I lived in Canada from 2011-2013, China in 2014 (only for 11 months though) and Australia ever since. I know I will have to provide an Australian police certificate, but will they also need one from RCMP, the UK and China? (I hope not China. Was less than a year and also a nightmare to be able to get a police check from there).

5. If a form is not applicable (cosigner, children etc) do we still need to print it off, fill it out and send it covered in N/A's or do we just put N/A on the checklist?

6. As we are married, what type of proof are they are? Wedding pictures? Lease agreement? Travel photos? How do you prove the genuineness of a marriage?

7. Do we need reference letters from friends and families? I know we needed this when we were considering the commonlaw application but is this necessary?

8. Do we need to notarize everything?

9. We haven't earn't money in Canada for a while. Do we still supply the most recent option C form? Or even our last tax assessment? Can we provide our tax assessment details from Australia and pay slips here in place of that?

10. We are both sentimental to an extent but we haven't kept all details of things we do together. For example, purchases, plane tickets, etc. Will this make our application weaker? The most I think we are able to do is provide screenshots of facebook, screenshots of joint bank details, maybe old email transactions etc. We don't really have that much otherwise as we've moved around so much and have gotten rid of so many things along the way.

Thanks for the help!

Hmm ... looks like I need a police check from China after all. That's annoying. Anyone have any idea how I'd do that? Hope the wife doesn't need one too as a sponsor. Don't fancy my chances of getting 1, let alone 2!

Just quickly I'll handle some of the easy/quick ones

3. No

4. UK and China also

5. I personally just put N/A on the checklist by the forms not needed

6. Wedding photos, travel photos, photos of you both with family and friend, joint bank acconts, lease agreements, present purchaes etc. etc. You get the idea

7. Not required but can be helpful as evidence

And CIC has a guide to getting police certificates from each country

Thanks canadausa.

All seems ok and good to go. The police certificates are the hard part it seems then.

I'll need a canadian, australian, uk and china one then?

The china one seems quite difficult to get as there isn't any countrywide police department and Id have to go through the city I lived in. Which is a pain as they don't do anything by mail, only in person. Bit rough it seems.

Well, thats a little better. One less thing to try and get. Leaves me with the China one. Been doing my research - annoyingly looks like i'd have to take a 2 week trip back to China in order to get it.

Hello Gary_87,

What did you end up doing as proof of settling in Canada? (Question 2)? We're looking at a question on the checklist of how to provide proof that my partner will live with me in Canada but we have the same problem you did!
