Hi all,

I'm hoping some of my questions can be answered here and appreciate any answers you can provide for me.

Question#1

My wife (Thai) just recently received here passport back from Singapore with her visa stamp on it for Canada. With this in mind, do we for sure require to have the interview when I bring her to Vancouver, or will we be notified at some point soon?

Question#2

Does my wife need to have this new Permanent Resident Travel Document with her on her first arrival into Canada? Or do we need to get this after, if she plans to travel outside Canada in the future?

Question#3

Any advise on the documents we should have when we arrive in Vancouver to present my wife's PR visa paperwork to customs would be very helpful as well.

Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

1. did she receive her COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Resident) landing document along with her passport? if so, then all she needs to do is travel to canada and land as a pr. there are no "landing interviews" for outland applicants. she presents the form to immigration at your port of entry, they sign, she signs, they stamp and send her on her way as a pr.

2. no, assuming she has her passport with her visa and the COPR letter, that is all she needs to land. A PRTD is for when someone who requires a visa is trying to travel to canada and does not have their pr card AFTER landing. your wife will not get her PR card until months after landing as a PR, so this is not relevant to her at this time.

3. all she needs is her passport and COPR. If she is declaring goods at landing or at a later date, then she needs to fill out the BSF186 form.

I agree with CDNPR2014 overall. That being said, they won't have a formal interview but be prepared to answer a few basic questions. My husband was asked about when and how we met and and to explain a bit about our relationship history. Nothing too complicated, but it does happen sometimes. It didn't prolong the landing at all, he was out with his bags in hand within an hour of landing at Toronto Pearson. Perhaps if I had landed with him, no questions would have been asked.

they will also ask the questions printed on the COPR. other questions may be because of curiousity, or like you said if the sponsor isn't present. i landed at a land border, so my husband was able to be there with me and i didn't get questioned about our relationship that i remember. i'm pretty sure they just asked "who's that?".
