Once my husband gets the PR visa, how long before the visa expires? and, how long does he have to move to Canada? Does he have to have a job before he moves? It says that is it recommended to pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee with the application fee? What if we wait to pay it once we are approved for sponsorship? Will we get back all fee´s if the sponsorship is declined?

It states the expiry date on the COPR document. He can "land" at any time up to that date. Once he has "landed", he can return home to settle up his affairs and then go to Canada permanently after a year or two. He does not have to have a job. Yes, pay all the fees at the beginning if you can. It will prevent later delays. Refunds will depend on how much of the processing has started. However, the RPRF is always refunded if the application fails.

Thanks for your reply, just to be clear.
Once the PR visa is issued, how long does he have until it expires? He can remain in Ireland, look fo rwork in Canada then move when he is content with his new job offer? How long is the average card issued for?

The expiry date is unique to each applicant. It depends on the date that the first medical was done, and if it has been extended by the visa office. He can go to Canada to become a Landed Immigrant (PR) and then return to Ireland until it suites him to finally settle in Canada. However, he will have to make sure that he complies with the published Residency Obligations, which will also be sent to him with the COPR.

Do not make the mistake of thinking that his PR status is defined by the PR Card expiry dates. They are not related.
The PR Card is basically just a "travel document"....

ok, but for future planning, we plan on moving once we get word that the PR visa is issued. Will we fall into a problem that he may only have a few months to find an adequate job or is there enough time to look for work from Ireland then move? We have two small kids so are we going to have to pack up everything quickly and move to Canada in case the visa expired?
Sorry, but it is so confusing

Once the "landing" phase is finished, the "visa" is no longer required at all. You will have plenty of time to get sorted out for the final move... If you are living with your husband abroad, there is no risk to his PR status because of the Residency Obligations.

The London VO screwed up. Although I had been married to my sponsor for over eight years at the time of my application, they incorrectly applied "Condition 51" (Conditional PR) to the COPR. Looking back at my GCMS notes, I can see where the error started, and nobody in London bothered to double check the details. So, I sent them a somewhat "snotty" Case Specific Enquiry, upon which they apologised and asked for it to be returned. They then issued a different, correct, COPR.
