Visa Office......
London UK
Dear All,

BACKGROUND: Me and my wife received our PR Visas including the COPR dated Dec 2012 and have to and before Sep 2013.

ISSUE: The surname field in my wifes passport is left blank while the given name(s) in the passport is printed as "ABC XYZ". However, please note that her Surname is “XYZ” & the Given Name is “ABC”.
Now, obviously her name on PR Visa and COPR appears as per North American Standards , i.e Surname : ABC XYZ, and Given Name ia left blank.

ADVICE REQUEST:
1. Shall i go ahead and land with the current documents (passport, PR VISA & COPR)? Am i inviting problems in canada ( @ her driving licence, PR card, Sin card, health card . How can i forget the requirment of Surname & Given Name while booking of an airline ticket?

Actually we are planning to visit US after doing our landing in canada, this is where all this triggered from. After i started filling the DS 160 form for US Visitor Visa where in my wifes case the surname will appear as "ABC XYZ" & Given name as "FNU" (first name unknow).

OR

2. Go to Indian Embassy in Abu dhabi (place of passport issue), and request for the split in surname and given name. I think they can put an observation (NOT SURE). Further, Send a case specific enquiry to LVO and seek their advice. I anticipate they will ask the return of my wifes passport and COPR and will resent the new Visa and COPR with the correction ( split in surname and given name).. Am i being too optimistic.

PLEASE ADVICE... I shall be too greatful

Policy on Single Names in Passport
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) considers the surname (family name) as the primary identifier for an individual. In some cases, a single name will appear in the given name field of the applicant’s passport. In such cases, CIC will record that single name in the surname field.
In cases where a single name consists of more than one part (e.g., Jean-Paul), the entire name will be recorded in the surname field.
All future immigration documents, correspondence and applications should be completed by entering your complete name in the surname field and leaving the given name field blank.

You can change it on landing too ...

Application Forms – Request to Amend the Record of Landing
If there is an error on your Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or on your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or IMM 5688), you must send a Request to Amend the Immigration Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent Residence or valid Temporary Resident document (IMM 1436) to the Query Response Centre in Ottawa, Ontario to have the error corrected. Your document can only be corrected if the personal information indicated in the passport you used to enter Canada as a permanent resident is correct.

Landing and living in Canada as it is would not be a problem at all for her.
US Consulates will insist to correct her name on the passport in the proper format, for Visitor visa

While submitting her IMM0008 and in all other forms you might have given her name as is in her passport. You should have got her name corrected before applying. The error is not originated at the visa office, but it is from the applicant ( I agree the problem started from her passport or from her school records where the name was not shown properly ). According to my understanding, the visa office will not change the name until they see her passport is corrected and the subsequent updates on her application forms. Changing her name at the passport office or Indian embassy is not difficult. However, as you have enough time ahead for landing, you can try. In fact there will not be any problem for landing in Canada with the existing visa and COPR and the PR Card, SIN and health card, driver's license etc will follow the same name.

You can get her name changed later before applying for Canadian citizenship and the Canadian passport and citizenship certificate will be issued with the corrected name. It is a matter of few years and it would go well.

The only possible problem is for US visitor visa. US Consulate will insist to get her name corrected in the proper format on the passport and will have to apply with corrected name. I don't think US will bother about her existing names shown in her PR Card. She can explain the situation.

In conclusion I would say that due to oversight or by inadvertent negligence the silly matter is causing a problem in such a stage.

Guys for your info and advice.

went to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi all documents and tried to meet the passport officer. After standing in "Q" for an hour , managed to get hold of him. NOT to my surprize, he denied to do it and says he doesnt feel its an issue since i have travelled all around the workd with this passort and y am i comming now.

I was still patient and told him he was correct , i have travelled all over expect North America and as per their standards the surname and given name has to be identified separately. GUESS WHAT HE SAYS : " GO n FIGHT WITH THE AMERICANS". We cant help you n are not here to help u.

Well, my reaction to this ??? i dont want to write all that in this public forum... but One thing i am sure of ... the whole indian embassy in abu dhabi must be knowing me by now... i may even haunt some in their dreams tonight.

BOTTOM LINE : the Loosers wont do it here in abu dhabi.
Options:

Either i go to India n fix it there.

OR

Dont Do anything.. leave it the way it is face what comes my way.
