PR Travel Document Question

Hi,

I have a question about applying for a Permanent Resident Travel Document.

My girlfriend and I plan to go to LA On Dec 26, 2012 and back on Dec 31st, 2012. We have been planed this trip for half year and we already booked the flight tickets and hotels in advance.

I was holding a work permit and I have multiple re-entry visa to Canada. On Dec 1st, I was summoned to landing interview and then I became a PR of Canada. I was so excited because this was the moment I was waiting for so long. But I never expect or know that my re-entry visa will no longer be valid since of my PR status. I need to wait for 2 months to receive my PR card. The only documents I have now is Confirmation of Permanent Resident, which means that I dont have a valid travel document to enter Canada from US.

I know it is the best if I can cancel my trip. But since I had planned to propose to my girlfriend and wish to give her a surprise in LA, I really still wish that I am still capable of going to this trip.

I would like to know if I can apply a PRTD in Canadian Embassy in LA within those days (Dec 26th - 31st, 2012). Or please let me know if there is any chance that I can still enter Canada without a PR card.

Another method is, I still have the re-entry visa paper. Can I just show the Air line the visa so that they can let me get on the plane, then after landed, I would just show my Confirmation of Permanent Resident to the border officer in the airport? I am doing this is because I assume that PDTR was only useful for the Airline, unless it would make no difference if I travel by my private vehicle (in which case you just only need to show your Confirmation of PR)

What's your nationality? Are you American?

If you're American, you should have no trouble re-entering Canada.

Thank for your reply

I am not coming from a visa-exempt country. But I still hold the unexpired the re-entry visa.
