Hello friends,

I am submitting PR application to sponsor my father (I am citizen of Canada).
The issue is that on my birth certificate, my father's nickname/alias is there: Dan Khan.
However, on my father's passport his legal name is there: Mohammed Khan.
Since I have to provide my birth certificate for his sponsorship to prove our relation, please advise on what I can do.
Please note that he is here in Canada with me visiting on visitor visa currently.

Thank you kindly.
Cheers.

You should never use an alias on a legal document. Assume he hasn’t legally changed his name to Dan since then.

Thanks. Would anyone have potential suggestions how to do the proof?
Other proof with you and your father listed as son and father and ID with identifying information like DON, height, weight, eye colour, etc. as well as an explanation. A notarized statement that he goes by a certain alias maybe something to consider but I’m not sure how effective it would be. Does he go by Dan in other official documents or ID?

Does his country have a procedure to issue a corrected/revised birth certificate?

What other identifying information of your father is on the birth certificate (DOB, passport or other document number, place of birth, etc)? The more overlap with your father's other identifying information, the better. What does your parent's marriage certificate show?

What other documents, official or school or private companies, etc., that identify him as your father? (Again, with the more information identifying him as possible). Info using either name and with as much identifying info as above as possible will help. Official documents better. As above, if there is also some evidence that he uses the nickname/alias habitually (such as in a work context), that may also support.

Do you recall what information you have provided about your father in past IRCC docs (your PR application / background info, his visitor's visa application - presumably put you as relation, and your birth certificate previously provided). Did your previous apps for him (such as visitor's visa) also disclose his nickname/alias?

You can of course provide a letter of explanation. If it's clear that all of this information overlaps - it's clear who he is - and such a name issue not uncommon in your country, they might accept as is. Or require more information or 'proof.'

In My case,
Does his country have a procedure to issue a corrected/revised birth certificate?
Yes, but because right now nobody there can do it. My parents are here with me in canada.

What other identifying information of your father is on the birth certificate (DOB, passport or other document number, place of birth, etc)? The more overlap with your father's other identifying information, the better. What does your parent's marriage certificate show?
In my case, my parent's marriage ceritificate shows their correct names. I could dig more into other identifying information. thanks for suggestion.

What other documents, official or school or private companies, etc., that identify him as your father? (Again, with the more information identifying him as possible). Info using either name and with as much identifying info as above as possible will help. Official documents better. N/A in my case.

Do you recall what information you have provided about your father in past IRCC docs (your PR application / background info, his visitor's visa application - presumably put you as relation, and your birth certificate previously provided). Did your previous apps for him (such as visitor's visa) also disclose his nickname/alias?
I just provide passports. On my passport, I have thier correct names. In thier passport, my father has correct name.

You can of course provide a letter of explanation. If it's clear that all of this information overlaps - it's clear who he is - and such a name issue not uncommon in your country, they might accept as is. Or require more information or 'proof.'

I am thinking along this way, a letter of explanation with as much possible documents proving the father-son relationship.
Thanks man.
