Hi everyone, I am a permanent resident in Canada, more specifically in Toronto, ON, since 2015. My girlfriend came from Brazil with a visit/tourist visa and she stayed here for 6 months, as allowed, and she decided to extend her visa in order to be able to stay here properly for more 6 months. For the extension, I even provided a letter saying that we were in a romantic relationship and living together since she came to Canada and all of that, and that we would like to have more time for us to better know each other and develop our relationship. Her extension was approved but now we're worried about the future, since soon she will need to either ask for another extension or leave Canada. My question is, Would we have a way to stay together? Like, for example in a common law relationship, since we're living together for a while and I saw that after living together for a year it's possible to do that. But I can't really find instructions or details on how that works. I saw information about a common law couple to immigrate to Canada, but not for a case like mine, where I am already a permanent resident and she is a visitor. How should we proceed? Do we need a lawyer or something like that? And what kind of status would she get? Just an extension of her visitor visa? Or a work permit or something like that? Thanks.
