Good Day,

I received an email on the 29th of January asking me to send my passport to the Canadian Embassy in Ghana within 15 days along with a letter sent via mail and a form which i was to fill and send back to them.

I sent passport and all other documents via DHL which was received at the embassy on the 5th of February.

Please can someone tell me how long it takes to get the passport stamped with the visa and sent back from the embassy?

Also I checked my status on CIC website and this was the current information:

  1. We sent you correspondence on January 27, 2018. If you have not yet provided the information or the requested documents, please do so as soon as possible. Please wait until you receive the correspondence before sending us additional information, as the correspondence will outline all information that is required.

It can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 4, 5, 6 or more months; nobody can tell you exactly how long it will take. But hopefully you should get the pickup e-mail soon.

By his grace. It helps one to plan.

Thanks for the information.

Please can you advise on what documents one should take along for landing in Canada

The best ways to transfer funds from Nigeria to Canada? I contacted my bank and was told I can only transfer in bits of $10,000 per month.

Can funds be transferred before one gets there?

Do you know about preparing for Canada? A Pre-arrival employment service company?

I would appreciate your response.

The most important documents required for landing are, the visa stamp on your passport (to board the flight), the CoPR and your settlement funds. With regards to the transfer, my bank told me it’s $10,000 a week; I’ll have to verify that. You can transfer funds to Canada before your arrival there, but I don’t think you can open an account from Nigeria, unless you already have an account there. But you can carry your settlement funds with you in cash, just make sure you declare it on the declaration card if it is $10,000 and over.
Other documents you may need are, the “Goods Accompanying” and “Goods to Follow”. The “Goods to Follow” is needed if you’ll be shipping stuff to Canada, otherwise, you won’t need that.

About preparing for Canada, that will depend on various factors, such as your field, province and such. That is going to require you to do a bit of research. You can start here

Thanks for this information.

I actually made a mistake it is 10,000 dollars monthly and not weekly.

The only problem I have with declaration of funds is in Nigeria because some of our immigration and customs officials will start harassing you and may even ask you for their cut.

Thanks for the information I will continue to research.

I know this problem, but if you know an airport staff, they can walk you through the VIP line with zero hassles.

Hello,

Thanks I don't know anyone for now but lets see how it goes.

Also I know if you are travelling with more than or $10,000 you should declare with customs. What I want to know is that what if the funds is more than $10,00 and two people are carrying it does it have to be declared?

I believe that for Nigeria, if you’re two traveling with less than $20,000 you don’t have to declare; as you can easily split with your spouse. However, on arriving Canada, you must declare, regardless of how many people are traveling, once it’s $10,000 and over.

Thanks that is what we plan doing. I was in Gtbank today and asked the lady at the counter what the maximum amount was that one can take as hard currency outside the country but she couldn't answer me. She looked confused it was a fellow customer who advised me to declare it even if it was below the maximum so that customs will not use it as a point to cause us unnecessary delays.

The law in Nigeria is $10,000 and over for an individual must be declared; below that, you don’t need to declare, the signs are visible there for everyone to see. What I realize is that the Nigerian officials test to see if you can be intimidated, if they find that they can intimidate you, you best believe they WILL milk it.

What I gather is that when you don't declare and the customs find money on you they can and have claimed that they found higher than the maximun even when that is not the case.

A colleague of mine said it happened to a friend of his.

That person showed weakness. As I said, they assess you and test, then they pounce.

Good Afternoon,

Please do I need to get my certificate verified to get a job before arrival?

I was asked to pick my passport up today. So I want to start preparing.
