Hello Friends,

Hope all are safe and sound.

My PR is due for renewal in Jan'22, and my family PR is due for renewal in Feb' 23 (as I have sponsored them). We all already met the residency obligation and looking forward to apply for citizenship. I have below questions:

1. Should I first renew my PR and then apply for citizenship(for whole family) OR
2. Should I apply for citizenship(for whole family) and then apply for PR renewal OR
3. It doesnt really matter.

Also, is there any counter on PR renewal like PR can only be renewed 2 or 3 times only ?

Many Thanks

PR card can be renewed as many times as you want. Even if your PR card expires you still have PR status. It can take quite a while to get citizenship so if you need to travel out of Canada I would suggest renewing your PR card.

I am sure this scenario is valid but wanted double check with you, would they allow us to enter if our PR card is expiring tomorrow and i am entering Canada today? already applied for PR renewal.

Yes you can enter as long as the PR card is still valid. If you are entering via a land border you can enter without a valid PR card. Proof that you are a PR is the only thing required. Proof that you are in the process of renewing your PR card with your expired PR card would allow you to enter via a land border without any problems.

Great thanks. What proof can be shown that PR is under renewal? as the online status shows nothing
