Hello friends,

In order to renew my Canadian PR Card do I need to be physically present in Canada ? I have already completed more than 2 years of stay in Canada and would be leaving for my home country very soon. I was wondering if after 5 years (i.e after the expiry of the PR card) I can renew the PR Card from my home country. Please advise.

Thanks,

You must submit the renewal application from inside Canada. The PR card will only be delivered to an address in Canada. You may be required to go in person to the issuing office to collect it.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/new-immigrants/pr-card/apply-renew-replace.html

Eligibility
New permanent residents don’t need to apply for a PR card. We will send one to you when you immigrate to Canada if you tell us your Canadian mailing address. You have 180 days after immigrating to send it to us. If we don’t get it in time, then you have to apply for your card. There is a $50 processing fee for PR card applications.

To be eligible for a PR card, you need to:

If you are outside Canada, apply for a permanent resident travel document to return to Canada. After you arrive, apply for a PR card.

Before you apply
A PR card is usually issued for five years, but can sometimes be issued for one year instead. It is valid until the expiry date listed on the card.

We only send PR cards to addresses within Canada. In some cases, you may have to pick up your card in person at one of our Canadian offices.
