I have a query regarding the requirements for PR renewal from offshore
1. what is the minimum time required to be spent in Canada after first entry to be eligible for PR renewal
2. can renewal of PR be done offshore
3. if so, are there any extra procedure/documents to be submitted

I tried to look around but I didnt find any eligibility requirements, as far as I understand, once you get your PR card, you can renew it onshore/offshore without any restrictions so in effect, it means you got PR for life

kindly correct me and straighten out the facts

You cannot renew it unless you live 2 years out of 5 from the date of landing in Canada. They won't send a replacement card to a foreign address.

You cannot renew it unless you live 2 years out of 5 from the date of landing in Canada. They won't send a replacement card to a foreign address.

First of all, you will get a PR card after landing. It is not attached to a passport. Renewing a passport will not affect the PR card.

Second, you will need to live in Canada for a minimum of 2 years within 5 years after landing to be able to renew the PR. As long as you fulfill this residential requirement during each PR renewal (every 5 years) you will be a PR for life (or until you become a citizen).

You cannot get a new PR card in a non-Canadian address. So you will need to be in Canada to be able to renew the card. If your PR card expires when you are travelling AND you have maintained the residential requirement, then you can apply for a travel permit (COPR) at the Canadian embassy, which will allow you to go back to Canada.
