Hi all,
The processing time for PR card keeps getting longer and I need to travel.
Do we know, say, what percentage of the processed PR cards are mailed out, as opposed to having to be picked up by the applicant?

They do say "most" on the CIC webpage, and so far I've only seen one or two cases on this forum where the applicant had to it up themselves.

While there is, apparently, some randomness in CIC's selection of PRs required to pick up the card, how this goes depends far more on the particular facts and circumstances for the individual PR.

PRs who have cut it close relative to complying with the PR Residency Obligation, for example, are at much higher risk for both delays in processing and at least a counter-pick-up (if not an interview scheduled for pick-up). Obviously there are other circumstances likely to elevate the risk of CIC requiring the PR to pick the card up at a local office counter.

Thus, the percentages would be largely irrelevant even if known.

Once the application is in process, CIC provides a way to request that that application be given urgent processing, but that requires proof of purchase of return flight to Canada. If an application has not been made yet, the PR can apply for urgent processing in the application. If an application has been made but is not yet in process, the PR seeking urgent processing is instructed to make a new application asking for urgent processing . . . but in the latter situation, it may be more prudent (depending on how long ago the initial application was submitted) to wait until the application is in process and then request urgent processing for that application.
