Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of gathering all the required documents to renew my PR. One of the requirements is to photocopy all the passport pages covering the last 5 years and translate foreign language stamps. I went to a translator thinking I could translate these stamps and use them for renewing my PR and applying for citizenship in few months however the translator mentioned I cannot use the same translated stamps because I would have to send the original translation to CIC, is this true ? can't I just send a copy of the translation ?
The reason I'm asking is that I obtained entry/exit entries from a foreign country that I used to reside in because my entry/exit to this country were not stamped into my passport and wanted to include these records so they match with my application. Now these records were in another language which got translated overseas and authenticated in the Canadian consulate in that country. I can't send these original records as I need them for citizenship and they cost me a lot of money.. so do you think sending them a copy will be sufficient ?

Another question, what's the difference between translating passport stamps through an ATIO translator and a regular translator ? is it just an extra step of notarizing the non ATIO-translation ?

Thanks

Take the records to an ATIO translator, they will make a copy of the original document and attach translation to the copy, staple them together and stamp. You could repeat the same process for citizenship application.

Translatos don't authenticate documents, only true copies of documents. So you keep the original with you.

ATIO is recognized by government administrations and courts.

Hi,

I am applying for my pr renewal. I have a question about translating passport stamps.

Is this translation applicable only for entry and exit stamps or visas too ?
It looks to me almost all of my entry and exit stamps are in English but i have Swedish visa on my old passport. So do i need to translate that one page ?

Please advise -

Thanks.

I got translations for each and every single stamp, as well as additions that were not in English or French. The "cancelled" stamp that I have on my old passport (the Consulate stamped it upon renewal), entry and exit stamps from Denmark (since it says "København" instead of "Copenhagen"), details from my first passport which were not in English or French (the second one is a new type of our national passport and didn't need all the translations as the first one needed)...

Thanks Can and Mariam.

I will translate that, i looked at entry and exit stamps which are all in English only. I saw passport office seal and officer stamp on very first page which has in two languages (English and Hindi). I guess CIC requires mainly visa stamps and entry/exit stamps not for by default passport pages which comes by default with a fresh passport. right ?

Hi Canv,

I saw in another thread you mentioned that there is no requirement for PR renewals to submit translated stamps from their passports.

it looks to me it's correct in my case as i have submitted more than 1 secondary documents(record of landing, drivers license, health card). I saw the note there as below - I am still submitting my old passport and 3 years tax assessments, so do i still have to worry to translate my sweden visa from old passport into english + an notary ? Any suggestions ?

Note: You are strongly encouraged to submit two (2) secondary identity documents in the event that additional documents are required and to prevent delays in the processing of your application.

"Applying for a Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) - Initial application, replacement or renewal (IMM 5445)

4. Additional documents of proof of residence in Canada in the past five (5) years

Include the following with your application:

Photocopies of all pages of all passports you held in the past five (5) years (if your stamps are not in English or French, please have them translated, see section on Translation of documents), and
"

You probably saw me saying this about citizenship application but I encourage sending copies of passports with citizenship application as well.

If you are ok with waiting longer and receiving letters from CIC requesting that you send more documents, or requiring interview before a card can be renewed then go ahead submit whatever you want and wait.

Thanks again Mariam and Can V.

I am fine to send a translate page, just got a quote from a person and totally disappointed as the quote for 1 page is 56.50$...hmm. I live in Toronto any advises from your side how to get this done cheap (a visa stamp translation from swedish to english).

Please advise -
