Hello everyone,
I'm in the process of gathering all the required documents to renew my PR. One of the requirements is to photocopy all the passport pages covering the last 5 years and translate foreign language stamps. I went to a translator thinking I could translate these stamps and use them for renewing my PR and applying for citizenship in few months however the translator mentioned I cannot use the same translated stamps because I would have to send the original translation to CIC, is this true ? can't I just send a copy of the translation ?
The reason I'm asking is that I obtained entry/exit entries from a foreign country that I used to reside in because my entry/exit to this country were not stamped into my passport and wanted to include these records so they match with my application. Now these records were in another language which got translated overseas and authenticated in the Canadian consulate in that country. I can't send these original records as I need them for citizenship and they cost me a lot of money.. so do you think sending them a copy will be sufficient ?
Another question, what's the difference between translating passport stamps through an ATIO translator and a regular translator ? is it just an extra step of notarizing the non ATIO-translation ?
Thanks
