Hi Guys,
I have been working and studying in Canada . However, PR renewal application IMM5444 Q20 asks about work/employment but has a strange question "List ALL your activities in chronological order from the oldest to the most recent."

Do you have to declare activities outside of working and studying also. For instance , finding a roommate to sublet etc. , going to gym , humanitarian organization involvement etc ?

Please note:
  • "Personal History" on IM5444 is different than "Personal Activities" on EE ;
  • IM5444 is not Question 11 on eimm5669 schedule A has the same name but a lot more data. Guide to IMM5444 has just a few titles

I cannot discern if you are sincerely asking or if this is an attempt to mock the application form derived from parsing language out of context.

After all, item 20 in IMM 5444 (09-2019)E (current version of application for a new PR card) very clearly asks for the applicant to provide information about employment and schooling, and for periods of time the individual is not employed or attending school, to state or describe what else the applicant was doing during that period of time. Regarding the latter, while the context makes its obvious enough that it is asking for general descriptions like "retired, unemployed, or a homemaker," the guide also explicitly instructs this, along with an instruction to provide details for periods of self-employment.

How to answer this item is not complicated let alone confusing or obscure. Not at all. So NO, there is no suggestion, NONE, that "finding a roommate" or "going to the gym" (or, say, "doing the dishes") would be an appropriate answer. Indeed, the fact that these are so obviously NOT appropriate answers, is why I wonder if your query is sincere.

Perhaps a "doing the dishes" response will not trigger a problem, but even the dullest bureaucrat can and will recognize such answers for what they are and what that suggests about the individual. Maybe less so for a "going to the gym" answer, although in combination with other examples of inappropriate responses this might nonetheless be seen as a red flag, cause for apprehending concerns about the applicant's credibility.

As for "humanitarian organization involvement" . . . I am sure you know the difference . . . if the applicant was regularly employed or engaged with an organization, any organization ("humanitarian" or otherwise), whether as a paid employee or a volunteer, that falls within the scope of employment . . . but if the applicant was going to the local soup kitchen to serve meals to the homeless just two or three times a month, that does not constitute an explanation for what the individual was doing that month. Again, I am sure you know the difference. And so do bureaucrats. Play it straight.
