Hi,
Just received an email from CIC confirming that the photos of me and my wife were not accepted.
Nothing about my kids photos which means I think that they were accepted.
M'y problem is that I am in another country right now and will be back to Canada in 2 months.
Can I take the photos here and send them to a friend of mine to post them to CIC? If yes what to write in the back of each photo as they are asking for studio name and address?

Thanks all

Hi There,

The law here is as follows,

To make an application for a PR Card, you must be physically in Canada. If you want you could take photos and have your friend post the application to CIC and lie about the photo studio, but PLEASE DON'T DO THAT. CIC considers that misrepresentation of facts and you could loose you PR, which is totally not worth it.

Here is what I advise you do:

When you move to Canada, around 2-3 weeks before you want to leave apply for a document called "Permanent Resident Travel Document." This document is issued as a visa in your passport, it will allow you to travel back to Canada on a plane no problem. As a PR it will be very easy for you to get it.

I have attached the link to the CIC website, just keep your application ready now and go submit it when you want to go back (it's valid for around 2 weeks I think.)

Once you are in Canada, you can apply for your PR Card legally and issue free. While in Canada, you can access most government services with your Confirmation of Permanent Residency and your passport.

There is one other alternative,

if you don't want to apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document and you are a valid US Visa holder, you can enter Canada via land border in a rent-a-car with only your passport and your Confirmation of Permanent Residency form.

Hope this helps!

Hey There,

When they say you card will be canceled, that is not the same as your PR Status.

Think of it like this: If you loose your passport or it gets destroyed or for whatever reason you don't have a passport, does that mean you're not a citizen?

A PR card is proof of your permanent residency status, a PR card does not confer the status upon you. Other documents, such as your CoPR, can also serve as proof of stats when presented together with a passport (not for air travel though.)

If it's only the photos then depending on what the letter says you could just send photos, but I would call them up first and check if this is allowed since you are outside Canada. If they say no, I sincerely recommend you do not do it.

When you want to go back, just apply for a PR TD. Note that by law, your PR TD must be approved, this is not like applying for a normal visa. So no worries.

@rish888

I think the applicant has already applied for PR card either new or renewal when he/she was in Canada.
If the person had applied PR card application outside Canada then it would have been a misrepresentation.
The photo issue came up because it was not accepted and applicant was outside Canada.

Yeah, but he mentioned something about the photo studio etc and if he wrote one that was in Canada, technically misrepresentation.

I remember a long time ago even if they rejected photos you needed to go back, maybe it's changed now though.
