PR Online Apply = waiting for AOR = can't submit OWP = apply for Visitor Record

Hi folks. Great forum you have here.

I have applied for inland PR Common Law Sponsor through the online portal.

From my understanding from the official site, I apply for the OWP when I receive my AOR (which will most likely take several months).

In the meantime, my VISA will expire.

I have applied for a Visitor Record to keep my status implied, as I can't apply yet for the OWP.

Have I got all my ducks in a row, or can I apply for the OWP before I get my AOR?

Many thanks for any help. Happy Christmas.

It sounds like you do. Assuming you will apply for OWP before the new expiry date on your visitor record.

Thanks DimT44.

From what I understand, the key is to keep my status implied.

I do find it odd though that you can submit your OWP along with your PR application when applying via mail, but you have to wait for your AOR if you apply online. This can take several months. which I imagine can leave people in very awkward situations with VISAs expiring. Strange/Confusing process.

Hi Adam,
I’m in the same situation. Have you gotten your APR or not yet?! I find it so strange that online application is worse than paper application. I wish I applied by mail. In that case I could apply for OPW in the same time and I was able to keep working. It’s gonna be challenging if I don’t receive my AOR before my current work permit expiration. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi SamiraGh,

Sorry to hear you're in the same situation.

I have not received my AOR yet, and don't expect to get it for several months (based on other peoples wait time of 4-6 months).

I agree, application by mail is really the only viable route to take if you're wishing to keep working.

This seems to have been a serious oversight for the online process.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. So, we can’t do much but wait right now. I also sent a feedback to IRCC regarding this problem. They might respond to it. I’ll let you know if I hear back from them. I hope we both get our AOR soon. Please let me know when you got yours, and I’ll let you know if I get mine.

That would be great. I'll be sure to keep you updated on my application.

Did you apply for a visitor record to keep your status implied in the meantime?

Thanks a lot. Sounds great, it’ll be so helpful. You can also send a feedback to IRCC if you’d like to. They may consider our situations. My PGWP expires in mid March. I’m still hoping to get my AOR before ghat but I will apply for visitor visa by March if I still haven’t received my AOR. I won’t have healthcare with a visitor visa and it’s scary in Covid. Did you get your visitor status?

The current Visitor Record processing time 133 days, so I'll be waiting some time for that too unfortunately. It might be an idea for you to apply for yours sooner rather than later.

Can I ask when you applied for PR? I applied in early December, so I know I'm quite some way off receiving an AOR.

But as far as I know if you apply before your current status expiry date, it’ll be fine even if you receive it later. The problem is I need to apply for a visitor visa after OWP as well to be able to renter to Canada if I leave Canada. Do you know what kind of visitor visa we can apply for in this situation?! Is it only six months or it can be till your passport expiry date.
In general, it’ll be safer to apply for a visitor visa sooner and giving up on the AOR for now.

I submitted my application on December 27, 2021. It took me 2 months to complete my application.

I applied for a year Visitor Record and stated the reason for it was to cover me whilst I awaited my PR application outcome. Similarly to you, I want to be able to exit/enter the country this year without issues. Sadly, I can forget about doing that until I get a verdict on the visitor record. I'm in limbo when my visa expires in the coming weeks.

Oh, good, one year is fine. Hopefully, we’ll get the AOR before that expires and we’ll be able to apply for OWP.
I think you don’t need to be worried for the time you’re waiting for your visitor visa as you can’t do much with a visitor visa but keeping a legal status in Canada (which as long as you have applied before your current status expires, you’re fine, unless you need to leave Canada and come back with that visa. However, I guess we need to apply for OPW from inside Canada. So, even if we had visa for re entry to Canada, we couldn’t leave and we need to wait for AOR, apply for a OWP and leave till we receive a work permit or so. Anyway, I really hope you get your visitor visa and AOR soon. Please keep me updated about both. Thank you
