You need to stay 2 out of 5 years in Canada to retain your PR status.

The date of expiry on pr card has nothing to do with your residency. 5 years count from the date when you became PR .

For 2016 = 149 days
2017= 0 days
2018= 0 days
2019 =365 days
2020 =365 days
2021 = 31 days

This shows that you can renew your pr card as you meet the RO as long as you are staying for more than 730 days since you became PR in 5 year period.

Remember, you can only renew PR card as early as 6 months from the date of expiry.

So, if you consider the following (example PR card expires 1st August 2021) and renew your pr card dated 1st Feb 2021, you meet the RO and you can renew your card.

For 2016 = 149 days
2017 = 0 days
2018 = 0 days
2019 = 365 days
2020 = 365 days
2021 = 31 days (till Feb 1st 2021)

Total days: 910 days.

The date of expiry on PR card is irrelevant to determine your PR status. It's just a travel document.

The question are:
What's the date when your became PR of Canada?
What's the date you will be returning back to Canada?

Hi,
I became a PR in 2013 but I didnt permanently move to Canada till April 2015.Since then I have been in Canada.Next month in April 2017 it will be two years.I intend to go back to my country in June 2017 as I have some things that have to be taken care off. It might be a while before I return.My card expires in October 2018 .I just want to know how soon can I apply for PR renewal so I can plan my return to Canada accordingly.Also please tell me what documents are generally required along with the PR renewal application .Will I be needing doctor`s records as well from my current city.
Thank you for your help.I really appreciate it.
