Hello Everyone,
I need your help because I am confused.
I entered in Toronto on 18th Dec 2012 with my wife and got my PRC on 8th Feb 2013, I am going to India on 14th March 2013. Total stayed days approx will be 87 days ( according my calculation, plz mention if i am wrong ). I am intending to come back to Toronto after 3 yrs. My PRC expiry is 4th Feb 2018. My questions are below.

1) When can i come back to Canada to maintain my PR obligation?
2) Is landing date ( 18th Dec 2012 ) important or PRC expiry date ( 4th Feb 2018 ) important for PR obligation ?
3) Would 87 days be considered as stay in canada for calculating my PR obligation or not ?
4) Whats the difference between landing date or PRC expiry date?

eagerly waiting for your reply

Thanks
amitbalesh

The expiration date of your PR card has nothing to do with your residency obligation. It just dictates how convenient or inconvenient it will be for you to travel on commercial carriers (since a commercial carrier will insist you have a PR card OR a PR travel document).

Your first five years ends 17 December 2017. You must have 730 days in the previous five years. You will have 87 days credit. Thus, you will need 643 days by 18 December 2017. This means that you must re-enter Canada by Monday, March 14, 2016. If you enter shortly after that date it is very likely the BSO will not notice your lack of compliance and will allow you into Canada - but in that case you must not apply for a new PR card until you have been in Canada 730 days. The people at CPC-S (who handle the PR cards) WILL do the detailed calculation and if you are short they will investigate.

The expiration of your PR card is immaterial to your residency obligation.
