Hi,

I have heard that after getting your PR, and when being outside the country if you work for a Canadian firm, the period works counts as being in Canada.

Does the same apply if you open a Canadian Food franchise outside Canada? That is if your are the owner of the franchise

It's not the same. In order for your time to count, you must have been working for the Canadian company prior to leaving the country, it must be a subsidiary of a Canadian company you are going to work for, you should have a contract for a specific term and have a job with the same company in Canada when you return.

Owning a franchise for a Canadian Food company does not really mean anyway you are an employee of the Canadian parent company just that you have purchased the right to run a facility under the parent company name.

As per previous post as a PR you have to work for a Canadian parent company and be temporarily assigned out of the country by that company to continue meeting RO by keep detailed records of the arrangement. Buying a franchise in another country is a non starter to meet RO same as buying a franchise in Canada to come in the other direction to qualify as a PR is a non starter.
