PR living outside of Canada

Hi members,

Just have a quick question, if a PR works and lives outside of Canada with his wife who is a Canadian Citizen,do those days are counted as PR obligation? I could't find this info on CIC website, can anyone forward the link if possible? what kind of proof they must provide when it comes to PR renewal...? Thanks!
