PR is not really "permanent" as it says?

I see a term as PR renewal. So it means PR is not really permanent as its name says ?

I was in the impression that once i get the PR, then i can live in Canada freely without the need for any visa works thereafter.

But now i see that it's not like that! Am i right? Is it not possible to get a permanent resident, which is really permanent ?

Thanks!

1. Your wrong. Permanent Residence is permanent, unless you run afoul of the law or don't meet your residency obligations. You renew your PR CARD, not your status. If you don't intend to travel outside Canada, then you don't need to renew your PR card. Simple as that.

A lot of user on this forum seem to confuse other users. Once you're a PR it's up to you to "keep" that status but you certainly don't need to renew your PR status.

What user usually talk & write about is the renewal of their PR cards - the missing word is therefor card!. And yes, some even think that the status is linked to the PR card which ends in believing that as soon as the card expires the status would expire too. But that is not true!

Thanks for the clarification guys! I have some idea about the matter now.

by the way in what type of situations one needs to renew the PR card for example ?

Let's say if i got the P, can i reside in Canada for 6 months and 6 months in my home country each year ?

Is there a limit / requirement of staying periods to "keep" the status, once getting the PR?

I see you haven't bothered to do any research at all.

The residency obligation is that you must live 2 out of every 5 rolling years in Canada.

Zworks thanks, my question is the same as yours.

Tri-cities you are right but for those who lives in canada continously.

Like Zworks said ; 6 months in canada , 6 months in home country ,do reguire to renew PR CARD so that PR status also get renewed . 6 - 6 months makes four years for citizenship.

Your mathematics are flawed. As it currently stands, a continuous sequence of 6 months change of residence will never be able to qualify to apply for citizenship.

What's the point then of becoming a permanent resident if still living 6 month of the year in your home country? I will never understand..

No - it doesn't. If you do this you will never qualify for citizenship.
