My wife (principal applicant) just got her tourist visa approved while her outland family class PR application has reached the last stage. She got a multiple entry visa till the end of her passport (7years).

I read somewhere that the immigration officer (when arriving on tourist visa) can stamp your passport so you can stay as long as the PR is approved. Is that right ? Can someone confirm this?

The longest time she can stay is 6 months at the discretion of the officer. You will need to apply to extend her stay if 6 months is approaching and there is no PPR. Having a PR application in process gives no status to her at all. The officer can set a date to leave or not which gives 6 months
