Hello,
I had a PR that expired in June 2013. We landed in June 2008 and we got the PR which is valid for 5 years, but for my dads job we had to leave. So now I'm applying for a university and I'm under 18, so should I apply as an international or national student. If I applied as an international student and stayed in Canada for 1 year, can I renew my PR while I'm studying as an international student and then convert to a national student when I get the PR.
Thanks a lot

since you lost your PR, you are an international student. If you are starting as a student in 2014, you will have to go through the Express Entry route. if you get your PR application approved, you can definitely convert to a local/ National student.

You not a National student as you lost your PR. The conditions of remainning a PR holder is CLEARLY staying in the country for 2yrs out of 5yrs at the time you had it. Why did your DAD make all the family members go back? The PR CAN NOT BE RENEWED. CIC is getting tougher by the day.

But when I'll apply to renew it, I'll stay in Canada for more than 7-8 years. I'll apply to renew it while I'm in Canada, so it's almost impossible to renew, even though I'll be living in Canada?

James,

How do you know you lost your PR status? Just because you don't meet the 2/5 rule doesn't mean you automatically lost your PR status.

Here is my suggestion: apply for a travel document saying that you were a minor and your parents compelled you to leave the country. Very likely you will be granted a TD which can help you return to Canada as a permanent resident.

My PR surely expired and many people said it's very hard to renew even though if I was in Canada. But I was a minor and I was compelled to leave. What is the best thing I can do to get the PR when I go to canada

Your PR will expire only if CIC has officially told you so. Until then you are a PR. The expiry of your PR card doesn't mean anything. I have already told you what to do now: apply for a travel document when you are ready to leave for Canada (preferably just after you turn 18). You will most likely get it and then you can re-start your life in Canada as a permanent resident.

Better to research before talking. A lot of people say BS.

REFER TO THE BELOW AND CONSULT CIC WEBSITE TOO.

There are a number of ways that permanent residence status can be lost.

Permanent residents risk losing their status if:

they have not spent enough time in Canada - see residency requirement;

they are convicted of a crime - see criminal conviction;

they have not complied with a condition under which they obtained their status, such as entrepreneurs who fail to open a business as they promised - see breach of condition;

they obtained status by relying upon a misrepresentation - see misrepresentation.

Why should I apply for a travel document and what will it do for me. Plus for the first year I should apply as an international student, right?

You are assuming that you are already in Canada. The big question is whether you will be allowed as a student. How do u know if your student visa will be approved? do u know how much money they require to study in Canada? Also when you apply for student visa they will ask you/find out that you were in Canada before and this will bring up many more questions. For them your student visa will only be a way to come back to Canada so they may not approve your student visa.

Fernendez, I didn't stay in Canada for long but I'm a minor.
You are in wrong forum. You should post your Question under Permanent Residency Obligations. As you were minor when you were removed from Canada by your parents. You can return to Canada as a PR. Apply for a TD in Canada Embassy. You can get more accurate responses on the above forum.

A travel document will help you enter Canada as a permanent resident (even if your PR card has expired). If you enter Canada as a permanent resident, you will not be an international student, but instead treated like a local.
