Hi

My PR expired and Im eligible for citizenship, do I need to renew my PR first then apply for citizenship?
also my national passport expired

If you are not planning to travel in the near future, you don't need to apply for PR and national passport. However, that might trigger RQ when you apply for citizenship...

Your PR did not expire; your PR card expired. You only need to renew your card if you plan to travel. You do not need to renew it to apply for citizenship.

You don’t need a valid PR card to apply for citizenship. If you have an expired PR card, you can still apply.
I applied, took test and oath....became a proud Canadian, all on an expired PR card.:):)

Did you had to go through RQ ?
nope...no RQ,no fingerprint request,no additional docs asked. My test was 20/20,my interview went well (less than 5 mins)....IRCC officer even asked me about the gap in my passports.... I replied and explained it to her, she wrote it down. Then congratulated me and said oath will be within 2-4 months. Got my oath letter in 2 1/2 months.
