Hi! Is there any specific document towards birth certificate? I am from India and always used SSC(10th Std) marksheet as proof of date of birth. Will it suffice?

Yes, CIC has accepted that in the past from applicants from India.

Thanks. Also I realized my last name is mentioned as initial instead of full name. Same with my father's last name (initials). Will it cause problems? However my passport has both mine and my father's full name. Can I use my passport instead?

Yes, there is a Document.

Its given by revenue Department called as "Certificate of Births & Deaths IPC:XXXX Blah BlahBlah..."

I think they even consider the SCC Memo in place of B'Certificate...
But not sure about this...

My Dad just went to MRO(Mandal revenue Office) and took that certificate.

remember the b'certificate give my the Indian Embassy in canada will not be considered by CIC

Nope. You have to supply a copy of the passport IN ADDITION to the birth certificate.

Suggest you start working on getting a valid birth certificate...

Ok. Could you pls let me know how do I obtain a valid birth certificate? Can I apply online? It is difficult for my folks back home to run around for this as they are old now.

Unfortunately, I don't think you have any other choice other then going around them.

Yes, you can submit Secondary school record which has your name, father's name and date of birth.

I did submit my birth certificate,which I applied from indian consulate office within canada and my app was returned from CIC. They mentioned that I can give seconday school records if not having a birth certificate.

Getting a Birth Certificate back home is a lengthy and troublesome procedure, it includes advertising your name/dob in local News paper.....and then approaching endless baboossss and corrupt/shameless congress ppl..... ;)

Thanks for the reply. My concern is that my last name is not mentioned completely in the SSC certificate. It is only mentioned as an initial.

Some one advised me that I should get an affidavit in the below format and get it notarized by a lawyer in Toronto. Any advice on this from this forum?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOLEMN DECLARATION / AFFIDAVIT

I, XXXXX, a Citizen of India with Indian Passport Number # XXXXXX and residing at: <Address>; Tel: <Phone # optional>;
SOLEMNLY DECLARE AS FOLLOWS:
• I was born on XXXXXX (dd/mm/yyyy) at XXXXX (City) XXXXX (State), India.
• My father’s complete name is XXXXXXXX and my mother’s complete name is XXXXXX. Both are citizens of India.
• I am providing this affidavit in order to verify my birth details, as my original birth certificate does not bear my name and my father’s name is incomplete when received from the relevant issuing authority.
I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing it to be true, and knowing that it is of the same force and effect as if made under oath.

Signature: Date:
<PRINT FULL NAME>

SOLEMNLY DECLARED BEFORE ME at the City of Toronto, in the Regional Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto, on .

Hi,

I'm in a similar situation as you.
My birth name is different and the birth certificate shows parents name as first name.initial format.
What did you do with your application?
