Hello everybody,

I landed in canada 6 months back, and my PR has not yet come. I called them in February and they told me that some problems with my photographs and that they have sent me a mail and I've to send them new photos. I sent them the photos by Canadapost and I also have the tracking number.

And since I did not receive my PR yet.. I called them a month ago again and they said something was again wrong with my photographs and they had sent me a mail, which I never received, so they said they'll again send me the mail.

As my passport was expiring and they wont renew without my PR card, I called them again and said that I had not received the mail yet and the representative asked me to send my photographs asap to their address. and after I sent them the photographs on thursday, I received their previous mail stating that I had never sent them my photographs and that they'll close my file if I dont send them new photos before July 15.

My point is that I have proof that I had sent the photos in April and it had reach them. I can still put the tracking number on canadapost website and all the info comes.. Can they still close my file, because of a mistake on their part??

So send them new photos before July 15. If they close your file anyway, just fill out a new application for a PR card, pay the $50 and send them new photos. It is not a big deal. You landed so you are already PR, they can not take that away from you.

When you go to the photographer, bring your instructions and a ruler and make sure the photos are exactly like they are supposed to. Do not leave the photographer until they are.

What is usually the problem with photographs? Does anybody know?

photos that does not meet the specification

of course... but what is usually the problem??? Wrong border size? too big face? wrong dressing? wrong background? there must be one that is very common.

I don't know which problem is most common, but the photo spec page includes many helpful examples of acceptable and unacceptable photos. I'd take that page, along with Leon's recommended ruler, and find a photographer who promises that he/she has had a lot of experience providing PR card photos, and knows why photos are sometimes rejected. Doesn't mean that photographers who don't know why CIC rejects certain photos are necessarily poor ohotographers, but if you can find one with the above practical experience, you will have minimized your chances of having photos rejected.

My PR card renewal photos were rejected because the face was too big. When I measured it with a ruler, it was very close, no more than .5mm too big. When I went to get replacement photos, the same thing almost happened again. I measured them, said the face is too big, they re-took them, still too big, they insisted that this was their setup, that it would be ok, I said no, I want a refund and I will go elsewhere. Went to another place in the same mall and they did it without a problem.

I better start measuring my face then... :-\ Leon whats the name of the place at Kingsway Mall again? Thanks.

McBain camera and there are many of them in Edmonton. Another time I went to the one on 107 AV, they told me if to keep my receipt because if the photos are rejected, they will give me a refund.

After taken photograph, I would usually take measurement with a ruler and compare with CIC specification. If something not right, I will go back to the photographer to get it right before submit the photographs to CIC.

Not only PR photos, but also photos for visitor visa.

Thanks a lot guys for the input.. The thing why I want my PR Card urgently is that my passport is expiring and they wont renew it without a PR Card.. Already 6 months passed, when in the 1st place I was supposed to get it in 1 month!!.. Have sent them photos thrice.. The photographer I went to has been dealing with this for 20 years.. I called CIC today to ask & they told me to call back after a month just to tell me the photographs I sent them were received or not.. Anyways fingers crossed.. I think I should have taken this calmly.. because I've spent like $150 on mailing them next day deliveries.. hehe.. Lesson learnt!! :p
