Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some feedback (hopefully positive) if someone else is going through the same situation as me.
My son and I, we are already PR and I sent in January 2023 an online application for renew his PR because my husband adopted my son IN Canada, so his last name has being changed.
In January 2023 through the PR portal I sent all the documents, adoption order, the new health card of my son with his new last name, school records and a letter from the principal.
Sadly, in March 2023, I was checking the PR portal for see the status of the application and it was "Incomplete application", everyone agree with us that Incomplete application is not a whole explanation and is a very vague reason that could be interpreted in so many ways.
As usual, I called to IRCC main line, the first agent couldn't help me, not even security questions he asked me. I tried one more time and the second agent was more efficient, he said on the file had the same explanation and he couldn't see further. Also, he told me they don't have any phone numbers or way to contact the department were are processing the pr card. Just he advised me to re submit.
I am sure, I submitted all documents and letters of explanation and I am sure they didn't read the order of adoption changing his new name. So I re submit again through the website as well I send it on paper to Sydney, NS on March.
Today is September 1st 2023 and no updates of the pr card so far. Only send it by paper I was able to receive a AOR and could link now on IRCC my application.
I feel hopeless!
I am not traveling any time soon, but we are losing time because I don't want to apply for citizenship without my son.
The lon waiting is killing me without a straightforward answer or timeframes. Is almost 9 months!
I wonder what or why the first time I got an answer as incomplete application if I am sure I sent everything. I must say , the IRCC website states is only necessary the adoption order, so we haven't go to our country of birth to change his birth certificate or passport, because in order to change his foreign passport I need a birth certificate with the new last name.
This is what the website says:
"If you have legally changed your name within Canada
Then you must submit a copy of the change of name document issued by a Canadian province or territory, or by the appropriate foreign-state authority. The document must show both your previous and amended names.
The following documents are accepted:
Legal change of name document
Court order specifying name change
Adoption order------> WE SENT THIS
The following documents are accepted for changes to family name only:
Marriage certificate
Divorce decree
Registration or declaration of union issued by civil authorities
Revocation of declaration or annulment of union issued by civil authorities
Registration for common-law relationship, in provinces that permit changes of name for common-law relationships under their provincial/territorial law
So, I don't know why it takes so long... I am scared and hopeless like at the beginning big this whole thing of the PR process... I called last week and they told me, we have received the documents is just a matter of time.
Any advice?
